ioXt Alliance Certifies TikTok for Meeting Rigorous Standards and Commitment to Cybersecurity and Transparency

Certifying TikTok's Mobile Application Through ioXt Alliance Strengthens its Ongoing Record of Working to Ensure a Safe, Secure Platform for its Global Community of Creators and Brands

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – March 2, 2022 – The ioXt Alliance, the global standard for IoT security, today announced that TikTok has been certified through the ioXt Certification Program. The certification was earned after TikTok met the rigorous standards set out by the ioXt Alliance’s program, advancing efforts to improve the security of mobile applications running on one of the world’s most popular operating systems.

To uphold its commitment to the most comprehensive security standards, TikTok completed its application’s security evaluation and tests through NowSecure, an independent mobile security pioneer and partner in the ioXt Alliance Authorized Labs. Authorized Labs are the exclusive test providers for the ioXt Alliance. These organizations conduct all testing required for devices and mobile applications to be certified by the Alliance and to bear the ioXt SmartCert, providing security assurance to consumers and enterprises.

“Protecting our global TikTok community is always a top priority," said TikTok Global Chief Security Officer Roland Cloutier. “We’re strongest when we work together, and we’re proud to collaborate with industry leaders from the ioXt Alliance and NowSecure to ensure our platform exceeds global security standards. As we continue growing our team around the world, we look forward to working with the ioXt Alliance to keep our community safe and secure as they express themselves creatively, find entertainment, and joy.”

With a focus on eight core pledge principles that define product security, product upgradability and consumer transparency, the ioXt Alliance harmonizes global security regulations to provide clear guidelines for quantifying the optimal level of security needed for a specific device within a certain location and product category.

“TikTok’s proactive step in undergoing our rigorous third-party testing and certification program further validates the organization’s commitment in protecting its platform and its 1 billion monthly active users,” said Jan Bondoc, vice president of information technology of ioXt Alliance. “TikTok understands there’s no finish line when it comes to protecting the users of their platform, and we look forward to collaborating with TikTok to stay ahead of next-generation threats and continue to build a more safe and secure internet for all.”

The ioXt Certification Program for mobile application and virtual private network (VPN) application profiles brings transparency and visibility to consumer and enterprise buyers, and advances security in the IoT industry. ioXt’s standards for the mobile app and VPN markets are defined collaboratively by technology companies such as Google and Amazon, in partnership with various security labs, and aligned with the initiatives set forth by VPN Trust Initiative.
